Cookie Notice

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This notice explains the cookies used on decluttering.co.za by Decluttering Solutions (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/697223/07), which trades as Decluttering. Read it together with our Privacy Policy.

Summary

  • We set four cookies. Three are needed to sign you in. One holds a random value that keeps the order of listings steady while you browse.
  • We do not use advertising, analytics or social media tracking cookies.
  • We do not store anything else in your browser (we do not use local storage or session storage).

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep. Your browser sends it back to that website on later visits, so the site can recognise, for example, that you are already signed in.

Cookies we set

All four cookies are set by decluttering.co.za itself (they are “first-party” cookies). They are marked HttpOnly, which means scripts running on the page cannot read them. All but decluttering_apple_state are also marked SameSite=Lax, which means your browser does not send them with most requests that start on other websites.

Cookies set by decluttering.co.za
NameWhat it doesHow long it lastsType
decluttering_sessionKeeps you signed in. It holds a signed reference to your sign-in session, not your name, email address or any other details. Sent only over secure (HTTPS) connections.Up to 30 days. It is renewed while you keep using the site, and removed when you sign out.Strictly necessary
decluttering_oauth_stateSet only when you choose to sign in with Google. It checks that the reply from Google belongs to the browser that started the sign-in, which stops someone else signing you into their account. Sent only over secure (HTTPS) connections.10 minutes, and removed as soon as the sign-in succeeds.Strictly necessary
decluttering_apple_stateSet only when you choose to sign in with Apple, for the same check as the Google one above. Apple sends its reply back as a form from Apple’s own site, so this cookie is marked SameSite=None (your browser sends it with that reply). Sent only over secure (HTTPS) connections.10 minutes, and removed as soon as the sign-in finishes.Strictly necessary
session_seedA random value, set for every visitor, that we use to mix the order of listings in search results and on category and home pages. It keeps that order the same while you browse and gives every seller’s listings a fair chance to appear near the top. It is not linked to your account and we do not use it to track you or to show adverts.30 days.Functional. It holds only a random value and is not linked to you.

Cookies set by other services

Some steps take you to, or open, a service run by another company. That company may set its own cookies, under its own cookie and privacy policies, which we do not control:

  • Google, if you choose to sign in with Google (on Google’s own sign-in pages).
  • Apple, if you choose to sign in with Apple (on Apple’s own sign-in pages).
  • Didit, our identity verification provider. While you verify your identity, Didit’s verification window opens inside our verification page, as a frame run by Didit, not by us.

We do not take card payments on decluttering.co.za today. On a direct sale you pay the seller yourself, for example by EFT from your own banking app, so no payment page from us or a payment provider is involved.

What we do not use

  • No advertising or marketing cookies.
  • No analytics or audience-measurement cookies.
  • No social media “like” buttons or tracking pixels. Our share buttons are plain links.
  • The error-reporting tool we use to find and fix faults (Sentry) does not set cookies or store anything in your browser.
  • Our fonts are served from our own website, so loading a page does not contact a font provider.

If we ever want to add cookies of these kinds, we will update this notice first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

We use only the four cookies described above. Three are strictly necessary: without them you cannot sign in or stay signed in. The fourth, session_seed, holds only a random value. It is not linked to your account, your name or your email address, and we do not use it to track you or to show adverts. We use no cookies for advertising, analytics or tracking.

For that reason we do not show a cookie consent banner. If we ever add a cookie that is not needed to run the service, we will update this notice first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Managing cookies

You can see and delete cookies, or block them, in your browser’s settings. If you block decluttering_session you will not be able to stay signed in, and if you block decluttering_oauth_state or decluttering_apple_state you will not be able to sign in with Google or Apple. Blocking session_seed does not stop the site working. Listings will simply appear in a different order on each visit.

Changes to this notice

We will update this notice if the cookies we use change. The “Last updated” line at the top shows when it last changed.
